John was born with Down's syndrome. At his birth, the Doctor's wanted to put him into an asylum as that was was normal thing to do. His mother refused telling him they lived on a farm so John would have plenty of space to be himself and to grow up. At the time of his death, he was put into the record books as being the oldest surviving Down's syndrome individual.
