In the town of Lima, WI., Oct. 19th, 1874, at the residence of his son, Francis Mills, Deacon John M. Mills, in the 75th year of his age. The deceased was born in New Jersey, where he spent his childhood, his parents resident near Philadelphia. In his youth he removed to Pennsylvania, and being in the vicinity of Sabbath-keepers, he too, became a Sabbath-keeper, and from principle; and afterwards removing to Nile, N. Y., he was made a deacon of the Seventh-day Baptist church of that place. Several years since, he removed his family to Utica, Wis., uniting with and serving the Seventh-day Baptist church there. While residing at Utica, he was called to part with his beloved companion by death. After remaining a widow for several years, he married Mrs. Sarah Cleveland, who, with several children by their first marriages, survive to mourn his loss.
About 15 years ago Mr. Mills embraced the faith of the Seventh day Adventists and united with a church of that order at Oakland, Dane Co., Wis.., in which connection he remained until death. The departed was a diligent and proficient student of the Bible, a faithful attendant upon the worship of the sanctuary, a kind husband and father, and a peaceable and much respected member of society. The funeral services of the deceased were attended from the residence of his son, and his remains borne to Utica, Wis., and deposited by the grave of his companion; a funeral sermon, at the request of the family and friends, was appointed to be preached at the Seventh-day Baptist church of Milton, Wis., on Sabbath morning, Oct. 31st, at the usual hour of service.
