[The author cites information from a great granddaughter of John Meadows, Alveretta Parker Shields, who states "... (what) I've heard ... about my great-grandfather is that a man who lived in Brown County owed him some money. He decided to go up there and collect ... He reached his destination but died suddenly and rather mysteriously. It took some time for his folks to hear about him and since the weather and roads were so bad, the people up there buried him, they said 'close to a road.' His folks were to go after him as soon as they could travel. However, in getting the estate settled and all they didn't get together ... We have just found out lately (January 1964) that he was buried in the Terrell Cemetery in Brown County at the Sixteenth Corner ... They buried him just a few feet deep. Our childen can hardly realize the distance it would have been to go then as compared to now."]
