Major John S. McIntire was born Mar 3, 1760, in Berkeley County, Virginia. Major McIntire fought in the Revolutionary War and settled in Kentucky, owning land in Fleming, Bath and Montgomery Counties.

On Nov 17, 1800, in Montgomery County, Kentucky, he married Elizabeth Howard, born in Kentucky (31 Jan 1783 - 17 Feb 1855). Elizabeth was the daughter of James Howard, born in Ireland (1755-1835), and Martha Frame (1860-) (prob. s/b 1760).

Major McIntire and his wife Elizabeth settled in Bath County, and had eight known children:
    Nicholas McIntire (1802-1859),
    Benjamin H. McIntire (1804-1845),
    Van S. McIntire (1807-1842),
    Malvina D. McIntire-Congleton (1811-),
    Amanda McIntire-Metcalfe (1812-1893),
    James McIntire (1813-1866),
    Mary McIntire-Tabor (1818-1858), and
    George W. McIntire (1821-).

After John died on 26 Mar 1826, he was buried in the Jones Cemetery, Midland, Bath County. John's tombstone is the oldest known grave in the cemetery and the inscription reads: "In Memory of Maj. John McIntire, March 3, 1760 - March 20, 1826, age 66. He Was One Among The First Settlers Of Ky And For 14 Years Fought For The Liberties We Now Enjoy." Several of his children and family members are also buried there.
