John MacDonnell was the oldest son of Bryan MacDonnell. John changed his name from MacDonnell to McDonald and settled in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware. He was married to Mary Robinson in St. Paul's Church in Chester County,PA on May 10, 1712. Their children were Thomas, James, John, and Samuel. He stayed in New Castle until 1735 when he turned his government land back and with his wife Mary and sons Thomas, James, John and Samuel moved to Big Springs, Cumberland Co., PA. His son John Jr. would have been 16 years old at the time and may have stayed in Mill Creek. If John Jr. did move to Big Springs with the family, he returned to Mill Creek, Delaware by 1740 to marry Mary Thompson. John Sr. died in Big Springs on February 23, 1762, but did not leave a Will.
