"Lynde, John, Jun., son of the above [John Lynde who came from Malden before 1721, and d. 1756, but see note about this death date], seems to have been of superior education to those of his day. He was the schoolmaster of the town in 1733, when hardly twenty-one- years old; and afterwards is described in a deed as "John Lynde, Esquire". If he was a justice of the peace, he was one of the earliest in town. In 1750, he owned the Elliot Farm, as it was afterwards called, in the north part of the town, then containing three hundred acres, which had been his father's homestead. His children were John, 1736. Isaac, 1741. James, 1743. John, 1745. Benjamin, 1747. Ruth, 1749; m. Daniel Upham, 1765. The wife of Mr. Lynde d. 1751."

LYND, John, s. John and Hannah, [born] Oct. 25, 1708.
[Note: since the family did not move to Leicester until after 1717, this was clearly recorded after the fact and is not as reliable as the Malden record. Note that Hannah was recorded in the Leicester records on the same date but they aren't twins, and Samuel was recorded in 1712, the year John was really born, instead of Samuel's actual 1714.]

  5. Note: There is nothing in the death record to tell if it applies to John Sr. or John Jr. Washburn cites the will of John Sr. in 1749 so it does not seem unreasonable that he should assume the 1756 death is John Sr. Source:Denny, Christopher Columbus. Genealogy of the Denny Family in England and America disagrees, suggesting that John Jr. married his second wife, Rebecca, in 1755, and then died in 1756. There is a Rebecca Lynde marrying Asa Stower in 1761 that Denny thinks is the widow. The wording of the will of Rebecca (Denny) Lynde's father, Daniel Denny, given pp. 47-49, suggests this might be right. In the will of 10 Apr 1760, the father gives daughter Rebecca Lynde land, similar as he does for the other daughters. But then he gives his grandson Jonathan Lynde [the only child of John and Rebecca] "land lying in Leicester, that I bought of the Administrator of the estate of my son-in-law John Lynde dec'd but to be possessed by my daughter Rebecca Lynde ... during her natural life". Unless Rebecca married the very much older John Sr. and had a child with him, it seems pretty clear that it was John Jr. that died in 1756.
