"27 John Lyman5, Ebenezer4, Thomas3, Richard2, Richard1, 1717-1763; b. at Northampton, April 9, 1717; came with parents to Durham, 1719, or a little earlier; … While still described in legal documents as 'of Durham' John5, purchased of Ephraim Coe of Middletown, in consideration of £620 old tenor, 36 acres of land with a mansion house, March 14, 1741. The next month, Hope, wife of John5, buys April 6, 1741, of Eph. Coe, 25 acres for £200, directly west of the previous purchase, now called 'swamp pasture.' And so John5, and his wife go on buying, as shown by 14 curious old deeds, till they have 165 acres, which cost £1,623. He d. in 1763."
