John Lucente had conflicting information on his place of birth. He was listed as age 5 in the 1910 U.S. Census in Falls, Fayette County, West Virginia, as being born in Italy and immigrating in 1905, likely just after his birth. In the 1930 Census, he had duplicate Census listings, both in Coraopolis, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania: (1) with his wife Ida and brother-in-law Marco Vernarelli, stating that he was born in Argentina, and (2) listed with his parents and family, stating that he was born in West Virginia. The subsequent 1940 U.S. Census, when he was listed with wife Ida and sons Bartolo and Joseph again states that he was born in Argentina.
Clearly, John was of Italian ancestry, but it can be surmised that he may have been born on the journey from Italy (by way of Argentina), or shortly after the family's immigration to America, likely in West Virginia, before settling in Coraopolis, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
