John Lewis of the county of Boone and State of Virginia. [Note: Boone County was formed from part of Kanawha County in 1847]
Gives "to my two friends James L. Carr & Sam'l Miller, the following slaves namely a Negro girl Caroline & child, a Girl Ann & a man Toliver. Also a house and Lot in the Town of Charleston the same I bought of Mr. Fife.. In Trust for the use and maintenance of my daughter Margery Jane Konna, and her children now living or hereafter born of her body separate and apart from her husband Edward Konna..."

The balance of my property after paying my debts to __ divided as in my will.

At a Court held for Kanawha County the 22nd day of August 1855
This paper writing purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of John Lewis dec'd late of Boone County in this State was this day presented here for Record and thereupon derers. witnesses to wit, James M. Laidley [?], Alexander W. Quawier [?], James H. Brown and James H. Fry, being sworn and their evidence heard. It is the Opinion of the Court from the Evidence of said Witneses, that the said Will and codicils therin annexed, __ to the Codicil dated 3rd August 1854 and including the same hand by John Lewis is all fully proven to be the hand writing of the said John Lewis, and is thereupon Ordered to be Recorded.
Teste: A.W. Quarrier Clk.
Whereas I John Lewis of Manoann Duval County and State of Florida have made my Last Will and Testament in writing bearing date August A.D. 1854
I do by this writing which I hereby declare to be a Codicil to my said Will to be taken as a part thereof. Give and bequeath to my son Jas. V. Lewis the sum of two thousand dollars in money or other personal property which he may chose. I do hereby order and declare that my wife Sarah E. Lewis do have as a part of her thirds the following named Negro slaves to wit: Mary and her __ children, Julia an Maiieson [?] valued at $1,3200, also Mary Aan, Elizabeth. John & William Children of Lucy valued at $1,700, I further wish that my wife Sarah E. Lewis shall have the choice of any other of said Negroes at destination to the amount of her thirds. I also wish her to take the choice of any one of Lucy's children in fee simple all the others to ___ back to my Heirs at the decease of my said wife Sarah Lewis.
And lastly it is my desire that this my present codicil be annexed to and made a part of my Last Will and Testament to all intents and purposes.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of December A.D. 1854.

The above instrument of one Sheet was at the date thereof declared to us by the Testator John Lewis to be a Codicil to be annexed to his will, and be acknowledged to each of us that he subscribed the same, and we at his request sign our names hereto as attesting witnesses in the presence of J. Lewis and of each other.
