"The following John Kent I have been unable to locate; some students claim he belonged to the Charlestown branch of the Dedham family, others that he descended from the Newbury branch:
Lieut. John Kent came to Conn. from Mass. abt. 1727 (supposed from Charlestown?). The first mention made of him in the Middletown records was Mch. 28, 1728, when 'John Kent Corker' bought a lot of land of Daniel Starr. He mar. 1st, Elizabeth, eldest dau. of Thos. and Margaret Foster of Middletown, Jan. 30, 1729. She was b. Jan. 14, 1708, and d. Mch. 25, 1746, aged 38. Mr. Kent mar. 2d. Hepsibah, dau. of Abigal and Robert Hubbard of Middletown, Aug., 1746. She was b. Jan. 10, 1704, and d. Oct. 21, 1771, aged 68. Lieut. John Kent d. Dec. 8, 1775, in his 70th year. Inventory Dec. 19, 1775: Estate £644. No sons named in the distribution of his estate, only daughters Elizabeth and Agnes Kent heirs, and Anna and Hannah."
