John George Kaylor (variant: Kohler) was the son of Johannes Mattias (Michael) Kaylor and Elizabeth LNU. Michael came to America from Germany in 1765 with his two brothers. In 1800 he is shown in the Northampton, Pennsylvania Census. Michael's wife, Elizabeth is shown at the Himmel Lutheran Church's Communion ceremony in Northumberland, Pennsylvania in 1795. Little else is known about her, other than family information notes her death as having occurred in 1814.

In addition to John George, Michael and Elizabeth had at least one other son, Henry, born in 1779 in Rockingham, Virginia.

John George married Catherine Haulin in 1794 in Virginia and they later moved their family to Logan County, Ohio where some descendants stayed on. Others moved to Indiana and further west.
