"… General John Elliot Hunt, son of Colonel Thomas and Unice (Wellington) Hunt of Watertown, Mass.; he was born April 11, 1798, at Fort Wayne, Ind., within the fort; died July 22, 1877. He was the oldest native citizen in the Maumee Valley. State Senator, 1835, 1839, 1840; Treasurer of Lucas County, 1848-1850; postmaster of Toledo under President Pierce and President Buchanan; Major General of the Ohio Militia."
