Houghton Genealogy, p. 307, says he was born in 1705, but his marriage in 1735 suggests this might be too early, a conjecture supported by the age at death. NEHGR, Vol. 79, p. 400, Burr, Annie Lane and Thomas Hovey Gage. "John Houghton of Lancaster, Mass., and Some of His Descendants" gives his birth as 1712, presumably in recognition of that age at death.
