Facts and Events
From age 7 Edward had epileptic attacks and was considered never to have advanced mentally beyond this age. He could repeat nursery rhymes but would throw himself on the floor in tantrums. He was sent to Ashburn Hall mental hospital in the South Island, and to Marjorie's knowledge never received visits or letters. Apparently his presence was considered a handicap to his sisters' chances of marriage. In 1906 he was admitted to Seacliff Hospital where he spent the rest of his life. He gradually became 'very demented' and died of heart failure aged 59. References
