John was a Mennonite minister for a sort time and located with his family near present day Harrisburg. By 1791 he had transferred to the United Brethren Church. In 1793 he moved to Beaver Creek in Washington County, Maryland, where he continued as a minister in the United Brethren Church. Isaac, John's brother, also moved to Maryland at this same time along with some of both families.
