"he (Ira Gwynn)is a son of John and Gulielma (McMillan) Gwynn, the former a native of Virginia and the latter of Harrison county, Ohio. John Gwynn was about eight years of age when he accompanied his parents to Harrison county, Ohio, and there he received his education, grew to manhood and was married. He was about forty years of age when, in 1832, he came to Logan county and located at Zanesfield. One year later he bought 180 acres of land, paying therefor about $3 per acre. On this wild property he built a log cabin, subsequently cleared the tract, improved his farm, and continued to be engaged in farming until his death in 1853 By his first marriage he had two children, and by his second union to the mother of Ira Gwynn, seven children, of whom two are living: John and Ira. Mrs Gwynn died in 1893."
