Warren-Scharff Asphalt Co. laying concrete in Washington St. just east of Noble. Guy Manuel, a young yellow-faced negro, and Jordan Eli, a black-faced man, considerably older were rivals in pushing wheelbarrows of broken stone. Manuel's barrow was hit by Eli and toppled over, so Manuel struck Eli with his shovel. Foreman broke it up. Later Eli got his revenge, hitting Manuel over the back of the head with shovel twice. Eli was restrained and fired. Manuel had head wound - ambulance took him home to 63 Rhode Island St. and the doctor came to sew up his two inch head wound.
