Filby and Meyer's PASSENGER AND IMMIGRATION LISTS INDEX (R24a) shows 30-35 Gibbs entrants to Virginia, beginning with John GIBBS in 1619. John Gibbs, immigrant to Virginia 1619 is mentioned in the Richmond, VA. Times-Dispatch, Sunday, 10 Mar. 1912:

      "John Gibbs, arrived at Jamestown, Va. aboard "The Supply" in 1619.
       Commissioned 'Lieutenant' at Jordan's Journey in 1635: was one of
       the gentlemen justices for 'Charles Cittie' county, Va. in 1655..."(R66a)

Hotten (R42, p.171) quotes:
