"He may properly be called a member of the pioneer corps, having witnessed the government pay many of the Indian tribes their dues at Chicago."

"He leaves four children: Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. James Lawless, of Gilmer township, his son James Russell, who lives near his home, and Mrs. Dr. Landon, lving in the village of Burton. His aged widow survives him..."

    Pg. 3, Col. 3 (Wednesday), 6 Jul 1892.

"Mr. T. T. Lawless was in town to-day and reported that his father-in-law, Mr. John Ferguson, died on the 1st inst., and will be buried on Sunday morning. The funeral services will be held at the home of the deceased, after which his remains will be taken to Burton cemetery."

  3. The newspaper passage from 3 days later say that the funeral happened at Ferguson's home. Further suggested that burial would be on the 10th of July rather than 3rd of July, but I think this is not correct.
  4. There is a Find a Grave record, but no photo of a grave marker; see John Ferguson (1811-1892).
