    "Edwards, John. Deputy (Fairfield), Oct. 1702, May 1706, Oct. 1711, Oct. 1712, May 1718; Naval Officer, Port of Fairfield, May 1714; Justice, 1714-21. Clothier, of Fairfield, where he purchased realty from Joseph Rowland, 12 Nov. 1691; adm. to Stratfield Church before 1731. Prob. he was related to Capt. Thomas of Stratford.

    Mr. John Edwards d. in Aug. 1744 ae. 82 (g. s., Stratfield). Will of John, Sr., of Stratfield, 3 Dec. 1735, codicil 4 July 1737, proved 23 Sept. 1744; wife Mary; dau. Abigail Wheeler; children of late dau. Mary Dennie; eldest son William; sons Thomas, John, Joseph; land at Sackett's Farm, N. Y., Stratford, and Fairfield; gave £30 to Church of Christ in Stratfield for a silver vessell; had slaves and a large estate. Witnesses: John Odell, Samuel Odell, and (Rev.) Samuel Cooke. Codicil witnessed by Obadiah and Mercy Beardsley and Samuel Cooke. The son William appealed."
