John's obituary in the Carroll Free Press, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, April 21, 1904.
Relatives in Carrollton were informed Tuesday of the death of John Alvernon Ebersole, which occurred in Denver, Colorado, Monday night. Appendicitis was the direct cause of death. The remains will be brought to Carrollton for interment. Mr. Ebersole was a son of John E. Ebersole. He would have been thirty-five years old had he lived until May 10. A wife and one child, a daughter, survive, a second child having died a year ago.
Until about two years ago, Mr. Ebersole made his home in Cleveland. He had been successful in his business and all indications seemed to point to a long career of usefulness when physicians informed him that he should seek another climate for the betterment of his health. In Denver his condition improved materially and the outlook seemed hopeful until appendicitis set in.
The first intimation of his illness was a message received Sunday morning which stated that his condition was hopeless. Dr. William G. Ebersole of Cleveland started at once for Denver, expecting to arrive there Tuesday. Dr. Ebersole will settle his brother's affairs and Mrs. Ebersole and her child will return to Carrollton. Mrs. Ebersole is a daughter of Mrs. S. J. Cameron.
The deceased was familiarly known as Verne. He was of a fine manly character and had innumerable friends in Carrollton. He was a brother of F. K. and Thomas Ebersole of Carrollton, Albert L. Ebersole of Canton, Dr. William G. Ebersole of Cleveland and of Miss Nannette Ebersole of Carrollton.
