Dunbar, John. (Page 189.) Anne Dunbar was admitted to full communion at Fairfield by letter from Salem, 21 Oct. 1694, the same day that John's son John was baptized. She must have been John's wife, and mother of Sarah and John, Jr. Anne d. soon, and John thereafter made the two marriages ascribed to him. Since the publication of the Salisbury Family-Histories, John of Fairfield and New Haven has always been identified with John of Hingham who m. in 1679 Mattithiah Aldridge. Perhaps his earlier career should be reviewed and his identity verified.

Dunbar. John (I: 189, 710) of Fairfield, later of New Haven, was positively not the son of Robert of Hingham and did not m. (1) Mattithiah Aldridge, who was wife of the Hingham John. The erroneous identification, first made in the Salisbury. Family-Histories, was followed by the present compiler [Jacobus] in Vol. I of Old Fairfield, but questioned in the Appendix. It must be discarded, and all that is yet known of the origin of John of Fairfield is that his first wife Anne was admitted to the church here in 1694 from Salem.
