Will of John Dudding of Kanawha County, Virginia, written 20th September 1838.
Names his wife during her widowhood one third of his estate, to be equally divided among all if his children at her death.
Names three sons Joseph, William and Anderson and four daughters Elizabeth McCown, Polly Harres, Saray Dudding and Nancy Johnson
Mentions son Anderson living with him, son William to have "one hundred dollars exchang of a Negroes".

    John Dudding and John Persinger were among the first settlers in the Nitro area.They settled along the Kanawha River near where the I-64 bridge crosses over Kanawha.They both had large families.John Dudding came from Warm Springs, Va., between the Greenbrier and Cow Pasture Rivers in Virginia.John and Catherine Persinger came from Covington, Va. and settled just opposite the mouth of Coal River.
    John's sister, Rebecca, married John Dudding.John Persinger died in 1810.John Dudding and Rebecca (his 3rd wife), built a cabin where the I-64 bridge is and kept squatters rights until 1833.He bought the place then.John died in 1842 and his son, Anderson, inherited the land along with Amy Thomas, his wife.
    John, the common ancestor of most of the Kanawha County Duddings, became an extensive land owner before his death in 1842.According to the Kanawha County Land Books, he owned as much as 600 acres at one time.In his Will, recorded September 9, 1942, he stated that his wife, Rebecca should receive one third of his estate and that the remainder should be divided between his three sons, Joseph, William and Anderson, and his four daughters, Elizabeth McCown, Polly Harris, Sarah Dudding and Nancy Johnson.
