    Inscription:

    "To the memory of John Whyte Donelson, bn. Nashville TN August 15, 1820, died at his residence in Monroe County, Mississippi, November 24, 1855.
    The deceased removed to the neighborhood of Aberdeen in the year 1842 where he resided up to the time of his death. Honest and upright in all his dealings, firm and steadfast as a friend, kind and affectionate as a husband and father -- a good and true man in all the relations of life. He enjoyed through life the confidence and esteem of a numerous circle of friends and acquaintances; and of him it may be truly said, 'None knew him, but to love, None named him, but to praise'."
