John Deighton made the following will:

“John Deighton of Gloucester 1640

In the name of God amen I John Deighton of the Cittee of Glocistcr doe make and declare my last Will and testament in wrighting in manner & forme following first I commend my soule to God and my bodie to be buried in Christian buriall Item I give devise and bequeath unto John Deighton my eldest Sonne the sume of five shillings Item I give and bequeathe unto … Lugge my eldest daughter the sume of five shillings I give unto my daughter Francis Williams the sume of five shillings Item I give unto my daughter Katherin Hagburne the sum of five shillings Item I give unto Thomas Deighton my Youngest sonne the sume of five shillings to be paid severally unto them within one yeare after my decease Item I doe absolutely give devise and bequeath unto Damaris Deighton my daughter and her heires for ever All that message with th appurtenances lyeing in the Cittie and Countie of Glocester in a street called Westgate Street which said message I heretofore purchased of Mr Tobie Sandford and also one other message lyeing in Westgate Street aforesaid with th appurtenances now in the posession of one George Smith Curryer and also one other message with th appurtenances lyeing in Westgate Street aforesaid now in the posession and occupation of Phillip Greene Cobler To have and to hold unto the said Damaris and her heires forever Item I doe hereby give devise and bequeathe unto my said daughter Damaris Deighton all such estates for Yeares or other termes which I have or ought to have of an in all that pcell of land containing about three quarters of an acre lyeing in a place called the Vinyard within the countie of the Cittie of Gloeester now in posession of one Walter Pinke and also three pcells of land lyeing within the parish of St. Katherins within the countie and Cittiee of Gloeester now in the posession of one Thomas Coupie or his under tennants Item I doe further give devise and bequeath unto my said daughter Damaris all my interest and terme of Yeares of an about three quarters of an acre of land in St Katherins aforesaid in a place called Kings home, now in the posession of one Haines Item I give unto Richard Deighton and Thomas Pearce gent, to each of them a paire of gloves and nominate and appoint them both to be overseers of this my last Will and testament All the rest and residue of my goods cattles and chatties and psonall estate I doe hereby give devise and bequeathe unto my said daughter Damaris Deighton and I doe hereby nominate consitute ordaine and appoint my said daughter Damaris to be Executrix of this my last Will and testament In Witness whereof I have heer unto put my hand and seale the one and thirtith day of Januarie in the fifteenth Yeare of the ragne of our Soverign Lord King Charles Anno Domini 1639
