- ↑ The are two John Davis born in Concord about the time expected for this marriage. One is the son of John and Abigail, b. 1714. The other is the son of Samuel and Mary, b. 1711. One had married Hannah by 1735, the other married Sarah Flint in 1740. Both moved to, or lived in, what became Acton.
John and Hannah apparently moved to Littleton, as Acton records say two of their children were born in Littleton, and both John and Hannah died in Littleton in 1753. Meanwhile, John and Sarah have a child as late as 1760, and John died in Acton in 1774 age 60, matching the birth date of John, the son of John and Abigail. These facts seems to clearly sort out the two Johns.
Some sources present different arrangements than what is supported by the facts cited here. Source:Cutter, William Richard. New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial, p. 4:1738 says John, s/o John and Abigail, b. 1714, m. Hannah --- and d. 1753. (This John would not of been of legal age in time to marry and have a child in 1735. This pairing appears to be based on both father and son living in Acton, without realizing there was another John Davis in Acton as well, who turned out to be the son.) Source:Crane, Ellery B. Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of Worcester County, Massachusetts, p. 136, says John, s/o John and Abigail, b. 15 Jul 1714, d. young! (Crane gives this family a second son named John, b. 1735, even though the birth record of John in 1735 clearly names the parents as John and Hannah, not John and Abigail.)
