This family was found originally from census entries. In 1851 the eldest son, Seth, was not at home but was found living with his grandfather, Thomas Kaye, and Thomas's unmarried daughter, Alice. From this it is assumed that Seth's mother's maiden name was Kaye.
John Crosland has turned out to be a very common name in Holme and surrounding villages. His parents are yet to be determined.
