    COOK, John, Dr., age 72, of 1019 Front St., Lynden, passed away in Seattle on Sun., April 1, (1984). Born June 20, 1911 in the Netherlands, Dr. Cook had been a Lynden resident for almost his entire life. He graduated from the University of Oregon Dental School and opened his private practice in Lynden in 1935, retiring in 1982, thus ending a career of 47 years. During WWII, he served in the US Army Dental Corp and was also active for many years in the US Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Lt. Col. He was past president of the Mt. Baker District Dental Society, was a member of the Washington State & American Dental Associations, also past president of the Washington Board of Dental Examiners and a member of the Washington Gold Foil Study Club and past member of the Frank Allen Study Club. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Lynden where he served for many years as an elder, was a member of the Lynden Noon Kiwanis Club, American Legion Post in Lynden and was also a charter member of the board of Cascade Christian Home in Lynden. He was married to his wife Gladys Blankers in Lynden on March 23, 1939. Survived by his wife Gladys; 3 daughters, Mrs. Joanne & husband Stephen Syre of Moses Lake, Linda Lagerwey of Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Trish & husband Jim Rogers of Edmonds; 7 grandchildren; a brother William Cook of Fresno, Calif.; 3 sisters, Mrs. Lena (Vern) Martin of Bellingham, Mrs. Gertrude (Joe) VanderKamp and Mrs. Joanne (Rich) Pasma, both of Ripon Calif. and numerous nieces & nephews. He was also preceded by a daughter Stephanie in 1980 and a brother Rene in 1978. Funeral services will be conducted on Wed. April 4 at 2 p.m. in the First Reformed Church with Rev. Gordon VanOostenburg officiating. Burial will follow in Monumenta Cemetery.
