Facts and Events
His mother, Sarah Comegys, widow, gave him land in Kent County DE for love and affection. In that deed he was said to be of Kent County DE. She had received said land from her father Benjamin Blackiston by his will. Several genealogies say that this John Comegys is a son of Gias Bartus Comegys which is incorect. The Reese Collection papers in the DE Hall of Records identify him as John Esq. William Wirt Comegys says he had more children than I have been able to verify. Specifically, Anna Maria b 5 Mar 1792, John b 4 Apr 1795, Sophia b Jul 1797 and Abraham b 1 Mar 1800. Served in Capt Thomas Rodney's Company. Probably the John Comegys who had one male and one female over 18 and was taxed £6. John was appointed guardian to his sister Ann, a minor under 14 years and was chosen guardian by his brothers Cornelius and Banjamin minors over 14 years of age. References
