    John (Cole), b. say 1626. … (John Cole was misrepresented twice in early records. On 5 September 1639 "Samuel Cole of Boston in N.E. g[ent]. placeth John Cole his grandchild apprentice to John Mylam of Boston aforesaid cooper for 7 years" from "1.1.1638" [apparently 1 March 1638/9] [Lechford 175]. If this were really the grandchild of Samuel Cole, then the latter would have to be a generation older than otherwise required by the evidence, and so the record apparently errs in stating the relation. The marriage record for John Cole calls him "son of Isaac Cole," but the only known Isaac Cole of this early date was of Charlestown, and he did not have a son John [Wyman 229]).

    John (Cole), Boston, s. of Samuel of the same, was, prob. b. in Eng. m. 30 Dec. 1651, Susanna, youngest ch. of William Hutchinson, wh. had been tak. by the Ind. 1643, when they k. her wid. mo. had Samuel, b. 24 Mar. 1656; Mary, 6 Oct. 1658; John, 23 Jan. 1660, prob. d. soon; Ann, 7 Mar. 1661; John, again, 17 Jan. 1666; Hannah, Dec. 1668; and William, 13 July 1671; perhaps Elisha, and other ch. whose names are not heard, rem. bef. 1664 to look after lds. of Hutchinson, to the Narraganset, when the jurisdict. of Conn. appoint. him and others to be magistr. there, and d. early in 1707. His w. Susanna and s. William had admin.
