of age succeeded, according to his father's will, to ancestral estates in
Great Maplestead and Gestingthorpe formerly held by his father,
grandfather, and great-grandfather, appearing at Great Maplestead in
the Subsidy Rolls of 8 and 14 Elizabeth (1566 and 1572), in the former
being taxed ij sh. viij d. on lands of yearly value of xl sh., and in the
latter paying x sh. viij d. on lands of yearly value of £ viij. (Lay Sub-
sidies, Essex, 110-425 and 111-440.
