« ... The above-named Adam Storrs, baptised at Melling on 2nd September, 1629, is called eldest son and heir in his marriage contract on 5th April,1656, when he was about to marry Jane, the daughter of William Rawlinson of Graithewaite-in-Furness Fells (she was buried at Melling on 24th June, 1676). This Adam was admitted by the Hornby Manor Court as tenant on 20th September, 1663. During the latter period of his life he lived at Kendal with his eldest daughter, Anne, and her second husband, Anthony Askew, M.D., of Kendal. He made his will on 13th February, 1701-02, and was buried at Kendal on 17th February, 1701-02. By his will he left the Storrs estate to his daughter, Anne, for life, with remainder to her husband, Dr. Askew. Adam Storrs and his wife, Jane, had the following family, viz.:— (i) Henry Storrs, born l0th September, 1661, baptised at Melling, 25th August, 1662; died an infant. (ii) William Storrs, baptised at Melling, 26th December, 1665; died an infant (iii) Anne Storrs, was married twice: Firstly to Charles Cawson of Lancaster, merchant, at Halton Church, on 2nd March, 1684-85; he died in 1693 and Anne Cawson signed the administration bond on July 1st, 1693. By this husband she had one son, John Cawson of Penrith, a physician, educated at Cambridge. Admitted at Christ's College in December, 1708 ; MB, 1712. In 1694 she was married again to Anthony Askew, MD, of Kendal, and by him she had at least three children, viz.:— (a) Adam Askew, MD, of Newcastle-on-Tyne. (b) Anthony Askew of Wakefield, who died before his father, leaving issue:— /(1) Anthony Askew, a minor in 1739, named in the will of his grandfather, Dr. Askew of Kendal. / (2 and 3) Two daughters, also minors in 1739. (c) Margaret Askew. Dr. Askew of Kendal made his will on 31st March, 1739, which was proved on 18th June, 1740. » Accessed on: books.google.co.uk/

« ... Now Anne Storrs, the wife of Dr. Askew, was a widow when he married her; she had been previously married at Halton on 2nd March, 1684-85, to Charles Cawson, a merchant of Lancaster, by whom she had a son, John Cawson, who was educated at the University of Cambridge, and became a physician at Penrith. Dr. Askew had evidently some doubts as to whether he or this young man was the true heir to the customary lands under the manor of Hornby held by Adam Storrs, therefore, on the 13th November, 1722, he got John Cawson to execute a deed poll releasing all right which he might have in Lockey on the ground that Dr. Askew had educated him and paid his expenses at Cambridge. .... » Accessed on: books.google.co.uk
