After spending four years in the vicinity of Philadelphia, one evening, while attending a "cowboy show", he received the inspiration to go west. A few days later he left for Nebraska with his savings of a few hundred dollars and a young man named George Thumbal.
In due time, he became one of the early "homesteaders" in Holt Co. and realizing the vast opportunities in this country, he gradually bought more land and went into the cattle business on a large scale, always with success and was known as the "cattle king of Holt County". Any early settler will testify there were many many hardships to be overcome in the early days. Soon after that they returned to Holt County. This union was blessed with 15 children. ...
