Facts and Events
John Cantzon was christened John Charles Rene Jacques Cantzon. He arrived in the Waxhaws area of Lancaster County, South Carolina sometime before the Revolution. He was married to Sarah Dickey, was a practicing physician known as "the French Doctor", and owned a considerable amount of land. After John Cantzon's death, Sarah married Daniel Harper. He was killed by Regulators for Tory activities, and Sarah took most of her children overseas. Joseph I. Waring, in his History of Medicine in S.C. 1670-1825, notes Dr. John Cantzon in Waxhaws, 1763 (South Carolina J. Council Dec 6, 1763) 8:340, 10:55 . Page 391. (Note: I don't understand these reference numbers, either). Dr. John Jacob Cantzon owned land in Paxtang Township Pennsylvania next to land of Moses Dickey and John Foster. A land indenture from John Jacob Cantzon to John Buzzart is on file in Pennsylvania dated 26 July, 1763. John Cantzon and Sarah Diggy (sic) were married 1 August, 1761 in Paxtang, Pennsylvania by Rev. John Casper Stoever according to "Notes and Queries Related to Pennsylvania" by William Henry Egle, Annual Volume for 1896, page 100. Clements' "North and South Carolina Marriages" shows the marriage in Lancaster County, South Carolina. Since Paxtang is in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Clements may have mis-assumed. My guess is they were married in Pennsylvania. References
