born Dec 20 1856 in Brownstown, Pa
died Jan 25 1943 in the County Infirmary, rural Kosciusko County
    usual residence: Syracuse, Kosciusko, Indiana
    married to Lollie Byland
parents: John Byland and Martha Rodgers, both born in Pa.

His and his parents' birthplaces don't match any of the census records. It is possible he was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Indiana at a very young age, but it seems unlikely that his father's birth place would be given as Ohio in census records (as it consistently was from 1860-1880) if he had been born in Pennsylvania. John's birthplace is written in the same hand as his dates and other info (supplied by the informant, Ruth Griswold), whereas his parents' birthplaces appear to have been added later, possibly by the Health Officer, and were likely a guess.
