"Bethune ancestors originally went to Britain from France as members of t he entourage of Mary Stewart. They settled in Scotland and intermarried th ere. John Bethune emigrated to Glengarry in the 1820's. His sons, Alexan der and Donald moved to Rama Township in the 1870's where they and the ir sons farmed. Other Bethunes in the township were likely related to this family. It is thought that Angus Bethune was one of David's sons and that he di ed in the shipwreck of the Asia on Georgian Bay. Another son, Fergus was a teamster who moved North when lumbering died o ut in Rama Township."
