Dallas County, TexasLived at first in a fortified camp on the north side of the road, about a mile beyond where the State Fair Grounds were constructed, where he plowed the first land and raised the first crop in the county. Returning from the colony surveyor's camp on Farmer's Branch, and riding one of the horses captured when John B. Denton was killed at Village Creek, he was chased by a party of Indians from near the later site of the Episcopal college to his home. He lost his hat and some letters during the chase (which were found the next day), but the Indians declined to risk an attack on the camp. |
