    For many years a merchant in the city of Richmond. At one time Mayor of Richmond. Afterwards a resident of the county of Louisa where he departed this life in the 83rd year of his age.

    At one time John Barret owned Henry "Box" Brown, a slave celebrated for mailing himself to freedom in 1849.
