"… John Barber, 'Jr..' who d. at Suffield, Conn., 29 Aug 1690; … John Barber with wife Hannah and four children were leaving Dorchester, co. Dorset, England, in 1664, on the ship John of Weymouth, evidently bound for Salem. A John Barber, aged 48, made deposition 26 Nov. 1677 (hence born about 1629) with regard to carrying down a raft of boards for a Newbury man. Possibly Thomas and John 'Jr.' of Suffield were of this family. Thomas m. at Gloucester, Mass., 27 Apr. 1671, Ann, daughter of Aquila Chase, and had two children recorded in Gloucester; and appeared shortly after in Suffield with wife Ann and had further children born there, including a son Aquila. John Barber, Jr., appears in Suffield a few years later. He is called 'Jr.' to distinguish him from John2 Barber (Thomas1) of Windsor who settled in Springfield. These families have been much confused in several printed sources. It is likely that Thomas and John of Suffield were brothers, and they may have been sons of the earlier John Barber of Essex County, Mass."
