Reputed to be the Uncle of former Governor of Kentucky, Robert P. Letcher. Renta was in KY as early as 1780's. Verbal history of Clay/Owsley County, KY stated Renta killed an Indian and took his wife and sired several children by her. This rumor has been around for several generations. |

From his exploits it appears "Renta" may have been in Kentucky as (what they called) a "Longhunter". The name was based on the type of weapon they used. |
