    "John Atkinson, who lived 1 1/2 miles north of town, died Wednesday, age 89. Mr. Atkinson was the oldest settler of Guilford Township, Hendricks County. He entered his land in 1832." Son of John and Mary Woody Atkinson. Married in N.C. on Nov. 21, 1830. Father of 11 children: Jabin, Oliver, Vestal, Riley D., Mary Jane, Sarah Emaline, Mariah, Benjamin, Jemima Ann, Thomas Elwood and Sarah Ellen.
