John Anderson, Sr. was a weaver by trade and built up a business in the basement of his home at Crail, Scotland. The product consisted of such things as bed ticking, sheeting, and table linens. The business was profitable and he accumulated some property. When he died in 1846, a sum of money was left to each daughter and the business and real estate to the only son, John, who had no taste for the business and sold it. John Jr. did, however, leave the family home to his sisters without asking any compensation. The domicile and business were at Crail, on the Firth of Forth, Fifenshire, Scotland.
