  4. Johannes is the farther of the "stamvader" (progenitor) of the Jansen van Vuren family in Southern Africa, Gerrit Jansen van Vuren. The family name is derived from the town of Vuren in Tielewaard, Province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. The meaning of Vuren is not obvious but according to researchers it could have something to do with water as the area in which the town is, is frequently flooded. The local congregation of the "Hervormde Kerk" was established in 1395. The townsfolk were mainly farmers in potatoes and livestock.

Johannes lived in Vuren but had no surname (it only became compulsory to register a surname in the 1800's through a decree of Napoleon Bonaparte). His wife's name, if he ever formally married, is not known and it is also not sure whether he had any other children than Gerrit.
  5. In 2000 one of his 8th Great Grandsons, Pieter C (Riaan) Jansen van Vuren, visited the town Vuren in the Netherlands (see photo of him at Fort Vuren). He was in the Netherlands at the time to attend a conference of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) in Rotterdam.
