Local innkeeper and brewer in Rossla, Germany. He was the oldest son and came to America with his family in 1853. His parents had come several years earlier and settled in Butte des Morts, Wisconsin. He left to avoid military service. The family were members of the Trinitatis (Luthern) Kirche, which burned down and was rebuilt in 1873.
