ELENBAAS, Joe - Funeral services for Mr. Joe Elenbaas, age 93, formerly of 1062 Van Dyk Road, Lynden, were conducted on Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. in the former Lynden Assembly of God Church with Rev. Cornelius Rientjes officiating; Mr. Dan Gering also participated. Burial followed in Monumenta Cemetery. Mr. Elenbaas, who died in Lynden on Thursday, April 26, (1984) was born in the Netherlands on February 7, 1891 and moved to Lynden from Michigan in 1900. A retired farmer, he was a member of the former Lynden Assembly of God Church where he had served on the board and as treasurer for many years. During World War I, he served in the U.S. Army and was also a member of the Mt. Baker Post of the American Legion in Lynden. He was married to Stella Burns in Lynden on May 3, 1920; Mrs. Elenbaas died in 1965. He is survived by a son, Renier and wife Ruth of Lynden; a daughter, Mrs. Serena and husband Robert Haugen of Lynden; nine grand- and 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Gertrude Thom, Mrs. Jennie Elenbaas and Mrs. Allie Elenbaas, all of Lynden; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.
