Joel Tuttle, b. in Wallingford, Conn., July 26. 1756; served five years in Rev. army; volunteered with Putnam aud was with him at Bunker Hill, though not in the battle, being on detached service; he was afterwards sent West and served a long time in Westchester Co., and on or near the Hudson under Col. Burr, and was in the army of Gen. Gates at surrender of Burgoyne, where he was 1st Sergeant of his Co. He settled first in the north part of the town of Windham, Greene Co., N. Y., in 1805; rem. to Sullivan, Madison Co., 1817, where he lived until 1832; in Nov. of that year, d. from the effects of a violent cold while on a visit to Windham; …"
