Joel Richards, born Nov. 26, 1767, was the second male child born in Norwich. He married Merian Smith, of Hartford, Vt., in which town (in the Jericho neighborhood) he settled in early life, and there raised a large family of children, among them Cyrus Richards, A. M., for many years the well known principal of Meriden Academy, and the Rev. DeForest Richards.
