Johanna Hoskin was baptised on 10th July 1836 at Perranzabuloe in Cornwall, daughter of a blacksmith called John Hoskin and his wife Johanna. The family lived in the hamlet of Perrancoombe at the time of Johanna's baptism. The 1841 census finds Johanna living with her parents and siblings at Smiths Hill, whilst they were back at Perrancoombe by 1851. Johanna was described as being a copper mine labourer at this time. In 1861 they were at Anchor, also near Perrancoombe.
On 26th October 1863, aged 27, Johanna married a gamekeeper called William Cox. He was originally from Barnack in Northamptonshire, although by the time of their marriage he was living at St Dominick in Cornwall, although that is still the opposite end of the county from Perranzabuloe. They married at Perranzabuloe but then settled at St Dominick, where William worked for the Coryton family of Pentillie Castle. They lived at gamekeeper's cottage away from the village, close to the border with the neighbouring parish of St Mellion.
Johanna and William had one son, a boy called in John, who died as an infant, being buried just six days after his baptism in March 1866.
Johanna died the following year, aged 30. She appears to have died at St Dominick, and she was buried on 28th March 1867 in the neighbouring parish of St Mellion. William survived her by nearly fifty years, and went on to marry Johanna's sister Elizabeth in 1869.

d. Johanna COX, March Quarter 1867, Liskeard Registration District, Volume 5c, page 44, aged 30 [1836/7]
As Johanna's death was registered in the Liskeard district it is presumed she died at St Dominick rather than St Mellion where she was buried - St Dominick was in the Liskeard district but St Mellion was in the St Germans district.
