Biography
Jesse was born in Tennessee in 1815. His family was probably in Teneessee before it gained statehood.
The farm where Jesse Maberry and Matilda McClelland Maberry raised their children bordered Zion Church of Christ.
Jesse amd Matilda's children included:
Sarah Elizabeth Bryant Mayberry, Joshua M Mayberry (1839 - 1901), John Peyton Maberry (1842 - 1922), Henry Jesse Mayberry (1852 - 1934), Isberry Stanton Mayberry (1857 - 1942), Margarette Ellen Mayberry Bartlett (1860 - 1942),, George Mayberry (1836-1863) and Josiah Mayberry (1845-1864).
Most of this family supported the Confederacy and their four oldest sons served in the Confederate military. Reportedly, George was taken by force in the night to fight. George and Josiah died in battle.
After Jesse died in 1888 and William Jefferson in 1891, Elizabeth and James Bailey had moved to Texas. Sarah Fatima and Nathan Judd moved into the house with Matilda in 1890 to care for her.
In 1899, Matilda and her seven children were still living in Tennessee with their spouses.
