From "Tennessee Cousins", by Worth S. Ray, pg. 361: Jessie Cunningham, was born about 10 miles North of Knoxville, on the French Broad River, Oct. 25, 1789, and was married in 1857. He is said to have been the son of William Cunningham and the Grandson of a James Cunningham whose wofe was Arabella Goode. Jesse Cunningham was a Methodist Minister and a Presiding Elder. He was on the commission in 1835, with William Bayless and John Callaway, Sr. to divide Monroe County into 17 districts. His son William G. E. Cunningham became a missionary to China, and the other son, James R. Cunningham, married Carolina Weathers and had several children who married into the Carters, McCampbells and Tansys and moved to Oklahoma.
